Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and travel north to Kalpitiya, a quiet coastal town known for dolphin watching, kitesurfing, and mangrove lagoons — far from the usual crowds.
Relax by the beach and enjoy your first sunset in peaceful surroundings.
Overnight Stay: Kalpitiya
Early morning boat trip (seasonal: Nov–Apr) to see dolphins and whales off the coast. Later, explore the Kalpitiya Lagoon by kayak or take a catamaran ride with local fishermen. This is also a great place for birdwatching.
Optional visit to Dutch Fort Kalpitiya, built in the 17th century.
Overnight Stay: Kalpitiya
Travel southeast to Wilpattu National Park, one of the most untouched and mysterious national parks in Sri Lanka, known for its leopards, bears, and natural sand-rimmed lakes (villus).
Evening jeep safari through this forested sanctuary.
Overnight Stay: Wilpattu / Anuradhapura Outskirts
Visit the Ritigala Forest Monastery, an ancient jungle sanctuary shrouded in silence, ruins, and legends. Hike into the forest to discover meditation paths, stone stairways, and moss-covered ruins.
Then journey toward Riverston, a hidden highland area in the Knuckles range, known for misty peaks, mini-world’s end, and Thelgamu Oya river trails.

Spend the day hiking in Riverston, visiting:

The bamboo forest trail
Natural swimming pools of Thelgamu Oya
Enjoy picnic-style lunches and take a dip in crystal-clear streams along the way.

Drive deeper into the Knuckles Mountain Range, a UNESCO-listed cloud forest with rare flora and stunning views. Take a nature walk through remote villages, passing terraced paddy fields and spice gardens.
Later, continue toward Ella, a mountain town loved for its laid-back charm and fresh climate.

Skip the usual tourist spots and explore:
Diyaluma Falls – Upper level hike and natural pools
Visit Koslanda village and meet local artisans
Explore secret tea trails and abandoned railway tunnels
Enjoy the cool mountain air and breathtaking views.

Travel to Belihuloya, a serene eco-village surrounded by rivers, forests, and farmlands. This lesser-known area is perfect for soft hiking, canoeing, and nature immersion.
Take an evening walk to Pahanthudawa Falls or Samanala Lake.

After a hearty breakfast, begin your return journey to Colombo or the airport. On the way, stop at local fruit markets, village spice gardens, or enjoy scenic mountain views.
